This update will be quite straightforward: July will be the month of digital retreat. Summer is not for staying still. Summer is for side projects; summer is for recharging; summer is for everything but the mindless routines of the other seasons.
Reboot
There is nothing more energizing than slowing down and dedicate time to things I do not do every day. For July I plan to do that. I feel intoxicated by mindless activities, and I need a break.
Therefore, in July I’ll do a digital detox, I’ll retreat from digital places and non-stop news. Just to put things back in the right perspective.
If this month I’ll not be present on Twitter or any other digital place, you know why.
Camp NaNoWriMo
On July I’ll join Camp NaNoWriMo.
Camp NaNoWriMo is a lighter version of NaNoWriMo. The basic idea is the same (write a lot in a month), but you can set your own goal: 50000 words, 30 hours, 100 pages, whatever you want. You can tune the challenge to your time and your desire: there are a lot of people trying to write one hour a day or use that to edit previous drafts.
I like a soft deadline to force words out of my mind. After some time, you need to stop planning and start doing something: these international events are the perfect opportunity for that.
About the Blog
Due to the digital abstinence, I do not think I’ll publish anything here in July. I’ll continue writing stuff, but they will take time.
I am still working on the second article of the Ranking System series and the article on computation theory applied to Magic The Gathering. These are my two big boys for the future.
About Work
At work, I’ve finally completed a month-long struggle with the integration of one Natural Language Understanding framework to our internal project. The chosen one is Microsoft Luis, and I can guarantee you that Luis has the best API among all the other NLUs (Dialogflow, Amazon Lex, and so on).
We are writing a post comparing all the available NLUs; I’ll post a link to it here when it is ready.
